Bicycles to Airplanes 1.0

undefined

What caused  2 brothers from Dayton Ohio to take the knowledge they gleaned from their daily life as bicycle mechanics and apply it in a way that would change history forever?

I’m speaking of course about the Wright Brothers and what they did at Kitty Hawk North Carolina. How did they get from bicycles to airplanes? Believe it or not, they started their experimentation by working on machines of all types including printing presses! The real message is that the sum of all their mechanical knowledge in unrelated fields made it possible for them to invent something that to that point in history had eluded all of mankind. Modern mechanical flight.

The idea that we all have knowledge that we take for granted which can be applied in a new way is a concept that is thrilling to see in action. Especially when we push ourselves to go that extra step and solve a problem in a way that no one before has considered.

Perhaps you need to solve a creative problem for a client, or extend a product line, better yet, maybe you need to reinvent your business! Anecdotes like this one illustrate to me what really is possible when we apply knowledge, tools, technology and persistence.

In future entries I’ll continue to explore this idea and others concerning the challenges facing the modern creative pro, marketing executive or print service provider. I’ll try to keep it light and in bit sized chunks that you can digest and apply to your daily work week, after all you most likely are reading this on company time.
